Flickering issue with imported videos

I am an absolute beginner trying to import short clips off my cell phone to create a short video. My raw files are MP4 but they don't seem to have an issue. If I import them into Premiere Pro, they seem to have a flickering problem that the raw files don't have. Help!

"Raw" files is actually a very specific term in video post, meaning camera files recorded in a "raw" format, which means they are the original capture without even debayering into an image before writing to card. It has to be properly debayered and decoded prior to being able to view the image.

What you are referring to are the original camera files. Video from mobile phones is always recorded in VFR, variable frame rate ... which means the phone chooses to record only the number of frames per second it thinks are needed, so the actual frame-rate of a say 30fps setting can vary throughout the file from 27.1 to 30.9 fps. But the audio stays constant.

Playback of a file in a standard player is one thing ... using that file in a non-linear editore (NLE) like Premiere is a different matter. As this app is built around constant frame-rate media (CFR).

So ... sometimes you can right-click media in a bin, select modify/interpret time and set a frame-rate before adding the clip to a sequence, and Premiere can work with it ok.

Some VFR files ... you really need to transcode to CFR first before ingesting into Premiere. For that, use the free utility HandBrake .

You need to go to that app's Video tab and both set the CFR button to checked, and set a specific number as the frame-rate. And it's not the easiest to figure out, but you can do batch t-coding of entire folders.

Thank you, Neil. I think it might just have been that my machine just wasn't powerful enough. I was able to try a different more powerful computer and everything seems to be working fine now. Sorry for lack of detail in my original post... I was in a bit of a blind panic.

I'm keeping your suggestions in my back pocket though. Thank you again!
