Forums for older versions, i.e. Pro 5? Effects not working/going missing

Hello again and sorry for the delayed reply: unfortunately I didn't get around to testing the file using Mediainfo. Well the file seems to play fine-- when I said older, I meant compared to like 4K - 8K video, I'm doing this all in online quality-- but I do value your opinion... it's certainly not an ideal setup. Although I would like to get some practice in Premiere, even in its most recent incarnations, I'm not sure, ARE there any effects that give the motion a choppy, silent film type of look?? Because simply speeding things up isn't quite the same.

Regardless, I guess the only option if I wanted to continue using this older version 5 would be to use it to do the basic edit, then export the completed project/import it to another/newer NLE and apply the speed, grain/noise, speed effects... which might be more trouble than it's worth (especially because establishing the speed in advance would be crucial for knowing if I've left enough time to even read the title cards).

Anyway, would love to hear more of your thoughts, but failing a newer/easier to find sepia/grain/silent film mode on the latest version of Premiere, it looks like I may have to make do with Resolve on my newer computer for now... 

Hello Ann! Thanks a ton for your reply... and bummer that there's no forum for the older software, as I'm sure Premiere has changed a lot since CS5/v5.0, the one I'm using. 

Anyway by older, I mean a rip of a Bluray I received... an MP4, 1920x1080 resolution (labeled as 2160p x265, 10bit, although admittedly I'm not entirely sure what that x264 or 10bit means, I assume the former means H.264). It took awhile to import into this older version of Premiere/I was getting the “beach ball” for a good 15 mins and wasn’t sure if it was going to work, but the file seems to be playing fine, video and audio is good when I dropped it into a sequence. The only thing that DIDN’T seem to be working at first were the title cards…. Basically what I’m doing is creating a silent film fan edit where I put alternate music over the soundtrack and (for lack of having a version of the soundtrack without the music) use title cards to summarize the dialogue/VO, whatever’s not clear from the action… like you’d see on a D.W. Griffin film basically. These when I created them (in Preview, I’m not super knowledgable in graphic design/Photoshop) came out to 3300x2550 in resolution, and although you could see them in the Source Monitor, you couldn’t see them once you dropped them into the sequence, so I had to shrink them down to closer to the original file’s size using Encoder.

Anyway, back to the silent film part, and where I’m at: what I’m trying to do is replicate their look/motion… the sort of sepia tone, faster speed (which seems to be easy in Speed/Duration, although I’d like it to be a bit more choppy), and like we said, noise/grain.

But as far as I understand it, you’re supposed to just drag these effects out of the Effects window/tab and drop them onto the footage, but unless I was supposed to render them, I’m not seeing ANY change.

When I try dropping them on another Video track (like the one above), I just get the White Hand with the Crossed Circle below it, indicating that you can’t place them.

And on top of that, like I mentioned, unless I’m now looking in the wrong place, I’m just not seeing the Noise option… the folders under effects are now:

-Presets

-Audio Effects

-Audio Transitions

-Video Effects

-Video Transitions,

….and under Video Effects, I just see:

-Adjust (w/ ProcAmp),

-Blur & Sharpen (w/ Gaussian Blur which I hear is related to Noise/Grain),

-Color Correction (w/ Fast Color, Luma, RGB Color, & 3-Way Color Corrector plus Luma Curve, RGB Curves & Video Limiter),

-Keying (Eight- , Four-, & 16-Point Garbage Mattes & Track Matte Key),

-Transform (w/ Horizontal Flip)

So what am I missing? Where might it be/have gone? Because at this point, I’m pretty much at the EXTREMELY early stages of this project, as in, if I can’t get the look I’m after, I may just have to switch over to another NLE altogether (most likely Resolve since I wouldn’t have to buy it; I realize that it’d be easier to navigate all this on the latest version of Premiere, just don’t want to be paying Adobe monthly fees right now for something I’m doing for fun/to learn).
