Fully working configurable broadcast safe limiter

Hello everyone! I wonder why in Premiere Pro there isn't such thing like effectively working safe color limiter. Something similar to this one from Media Composer. There are 2 plugins (effects) but they simply don't work. I've tried to use them with many different variations of settings (luma-chroma) but every time percentage of pixels with luma exceeding ire levels were too high, so my workflow looked like this - export mxf file from premiere pro (encoder), import (most often ama link) to media composer and export from media composer with safe color limiter applied (settings were the same or very similar). And in this moment final mxf is really broadcast safe. Really?? Is that really has to be? This is Premiere Pro 15.2. 15th version of quite good program for video editing which DOESN'T HAVE tools to make technically good file for broadcasters.

    you can roll your own. apply adjustment layer on video, set its composite mode to lumanance with levels( black output 16, whiteoutput 235)

    and then another layer composite mode set to color, levels effect (R,G,B, each white outputs to 204)

    This will statically fix all colors inside the vectorscope boundry boxes.

     

    bonus, apply a curve just before the luma levels and get a nice highlight rolloff.

      Yeah, I tried that either. In MC this cc preset works like a charm but here in PP - no. This preset limits color gamut to 16-235 (8 bits). Maybe this is it, maybe the problem is in changing color space?

      i think you can use lumetri rgb curves the same way. their endpoints act like input and output.

      colorspace would be rec. 709 broadcast (usually)

      Have you tried the limiter in the Export dialog?

      Hi Neal, sure I have. I found your post with another tip (black and white mattes) and testing it right now, legacy limiter set 0-100 luma and -30-130 chroma and exporting xdcam HD 422 50. Smart setting didn't worked, many spikes appeared below 0 and over 100. Long drone city shot... I wonder why those spikes appeared after export and when I checked levels on scopes before export they seemed to be ok. It seems to happen after render process...
