gradient banding

So.. I have an after effect sproject with a pre-rendered dot with a masked soft edge.  (16 bit project) AE renders it just fine.  SOft and no banding.  

When I drop the AE project into  Premiere. there is a very strange artifact.  Nto really color banding, but a strange keyshape.    Have looked at Sequence Settings in Premiere, Project and comp setting in AE.  HAve Tried to do this MAC 0S - to Mac OS,  and Mac OS to Windows 10, but no avail.

Just for clarification, are you use the AE Comp directly in your Premiere Pro Sequence or are you rendering to something like Apple ProRes 422 HQ or Apple ProRes 4444 from AE and then importing that into PR?
