I recieved a video of someone singing, an .mp4, that I need to edit into a larger composition.
When I play it on my desktop through Quicktime, it sounds great. The second I open it in Premiere or Audition, the audio clips terribly. I have tried all sorts do de-clipping and FFT effects, nothing seems to be fixing it to sound as good as it sounds when it plays in Quicktime. Anyone know what's going on?

Try resetting the preferences:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.

try transcoding to prores, 48k 16 bit uncompressed linear audio... before importing into premiere. I'm guessing the mp4 audio is compressed in some way and that's causing the problem...

This sounds promising. Do you have a reccomendation on what program to use to transcode the mp4?

seems unlikely, but since it's part of cc, might try adobe media encoder first... are we talking free or are you willing to spend some bucks? why don't we try free after you've tried AMD. handbrake? https://handbrake.fr
davinci resolve has a free version
https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/. gotta scroll a ways down but the free version is available... You'll have to dig in to it to figure out how to import and then export... If it plays properly from within resolve, I'd guess it'd probably be able to export it.
Might try apple compressor. Maybe there's a trial version available. it's not very expensive and it does come in handy when adobe doesn't fill the bill.
If you hit a wall, post back and I'll think of something else... hopefully

No luck with AME, Handbrake or DaVinci. It did not play properly from Resolve, so I didnt fuss with any exports.
Odddly enough I had someone with Premiere Pro 6 open it up, do the same editing I did, and on their version it worked. So at least for now I have a useable file. I've started un-installing and re-installing my programs, crossing my fingers its just some weird bug. Uhg !!
