Question

Help! Push transition makes the clip that pushes the first one away black.

I have googled the heck out of this but to no avail. When I apply the push transition, the second clip does not appear to push the first out of the way; instead, a black screen pushes the first clip out of the way until the screen is completely black, then it pops into the second clip. I have no idea why. A little while back, it applied keyframes that made the video black for a second even without a transition, but I deleted those and it came back, but the push transition is still not working. I think it would look really good for this project so I could use some help.

This only happens between some of the clips, it's working in other places.

Also if someone could tell me how to add a motion blur to a push transition that would be very helpful as well.

Fyi, I've noticed this also happens if your clips are "smaller" than the sequence in which they reside...a condition which might not be obvious if the clips are nested then subsequently upscaled. Be sure the transitioning clips themselves fill the frame.

To create the Motion Blur over a transition, add an Adjustment layer to the track above. Trim it to the length of the transition. Add a Directional Blur effect to the Adjustment layer. Change the direction to 90 or -90, depending on which direction the Push is moving. Keyframe the Blur length from 0 at the beginning of the transition, to whatever you want the maximum to be in the middle, then back to 0 at the end. You can adjust the curves in the Effect Controls panel to experiment with timing.

theangietaylor yeah I sent him a similar video but the problem is that the adjustment layer on

his timeline is not having any effects on the layers beneath when applying transform, offset

and directional blur... not even color correctors

Hello all,

if you can help us here, I had remote access to psylighter system

I applied an adjustment layer over a clip and over a solid layer to test

on the adjustment i applied 'Transform'.. worked with the properties

and nothing worked... i tried offset, same result, tried fast color correction

and nothing of the properties is working

psylighter will share his system specs with you if anybody can help working out this problem,

it seems that adjustment layers are not working properly on the layers beneath as they should

in normal workflows that I do everyday on my system, but i have not yet updated to latest 2018

so maybe there is a bug with the latest update ?

he has Open Cl working

Have you tried it on a regular sequence that is not Multicam? Have you tried releasing the sequence from being an MC sequence before attempting it?

Great, fglad we figure it out. I thought it was probably related to it being a nested MC sequence.

can you please mark the correct answer to help others find the solution easily. Thanks :-)

Well I still haven't solved the problem on my project. Even crossfades are dipping to black at some connections for some reason, but there are plenty of transitions that are working perfectly fine using the same shot in the Multicam sequence so I really don't know what's going on.

Wow! That looks beautiful! I'll definitely see if I can get it to work. That looks so much better than Push anyway.

I haven't used that in a while but it might be that you don't have "handles" on the beginning of that second clip.

Many transitions are built on having extra frames of the clip before and after the bit used in the sequence that are used for in and out transitions.

So if there aren't maybe 20-30 frames or so of unused clip before the in point of the second clip, there's maybe nothing to transition. Same for the out side of the first clip.

But again, I've not used that for a while, and might be completely wrong.

Thanks for responding!

I have indeed checked and there are handles on my footage, quite long ones. So I don't know what the problem is.

Perhaps there’s a small space between clips? Or is there a nested sequence in there somewhere? Can you please upload a screenshot of your sequence, please zoom into the clips quite tight to show us in detail. It would also be useful to see the program monitor and effect control panel in another screen shot
