Hold Shift to move Mask Points Vertically/Horizontally (broken)

Day 1,076 of requesting Shift to work with Masks in Premiere.

  • Issue - Holding "Shift" does not lock masks points to move vertically and horizontally
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 24.3.0
  • Operating system - Windows and macOS
  • System & Workflow details: Any sequence, any computer

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a rectangle Mask
  2. Click on a single mask point or drag to select multiple mask points in Program Monitor
  3. Hold Shift and drag point up/down or left/right

Expected result

Mask point should lock to pixel-perfect horizontal & vertical movement

Actual result

Mask points "jump" several pixels and then lock to horizontal & vertical movement

Here is what happens when you try to move Mask points with Shift. A non-straight box.

Hello @_nicdean, this is an error in the documentation. The SHIFT modifier option to lock to pixel-perfect horizontal & vertical movement is currently only available for the Shapes tool. We are looking at adding this functionality to Masks as well. Sorry for the confusion.

Any updates on this? I'm on 25.2 and this still persists as an issue.

@Ron Rigler thank you for acknowledging. Would love to see this feature added! A small quality-of-life update that would make a huge difference for users.

@_nicdean is the issue with the way that the SHIFT+drag works in general or this is more about the selected point[s] offsetting when you click on them? With the new masking work that is now available in Beta, the issue with points moving when you click on them should be resolved. We are still working on adding support for SHIFT to contrain the drag. Hopefully you can take a look at the beta and give us your feedback. Thanks.

With the current Beta 25.6.0, there is no issue with points moving when you click on them. But the Beta has no ability to Shift-drag. In the previous public versions of Premiere, these problems would occur together.

If you Shift+drag a point in public PPro, it jumps several pixels and then locks to vertical/horizontal movement.

Let me know if you need more info to fix

Hopefully we will have SHIFT+drag working soon. Were you happy with how the SHIFT+drag worked in the shipping version [other than the points jumping issue]?

Honestly, no. Shift+drag has always been terribly innacurate inside Premiere. While holding Shift and dragging multiple points they often jump to odd angles.

I don't want to lock to 15° or 45° or any other increment. Points should move pixel-perfect horizontally/vertically when holding shift.
