Hi dbay,
Hope you had a good holiday! Try this in the Program Monitor: Choose the Settings Menu (Wrench/Spanner) > Overlays. That should toggle the overlay to the "OFF" position.

It's not a menu, it's the screen on the right, ocean_emeralds. Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you were helped!
I'll adjust my reply so that it makes more sense. Sorry, I used to teach editing and I tend to use precise terms for UI. I can be misunderstood.

Click the wrench and Overlays is at the bottom of the Settings options.
