Question

How do you control text width in premiere pro essential graphics

Am now using Essential Graphics to create text in Premiere Pro. Am I crazy, or is there no way to copy text into a new text area and then control its width as you did in Legacy title? Grabing the handles and moving them simply expands or contracts the text box by increasing or decreasing the actual text size - and that's not what the goal is when you want the existing size text to wrap to next line. It worked just fine in Legacy title. Is this a bug or oversight in PP? Also I see no control anywhere to meet this objective in PP.

If you're talking about setting the size of the text box itself, you do that to begin with ... hit T for text, then drag yourself a box in the Program monitor. Put your text in that box.

I'm not sure what exactly you are going for,

but you can still go to File - New - Legacy Title and send us screenshots of

what you really intended to do there that can't be done in the essential graphics

Ann,

Don’t know what you mean “add enter”. No matter what I do, I can’t seem to control the overall width of text keeping any size of text. I’m am trying to simply copy text into that area for doing but can’t control its width.

I’ve copied text into the small place for it - and it just makes huge width. Then handles (even the one you’d think would shrink the length - doesn’t) only increases or decreases text size.

In Legacy Title you had the ability to control the total width of all text of the same size. e.g. When you increased or decresed the size of text, words would wrap appropriately for the same alloted total width for that text. (i.e. The font stayed the same size and the widgth of the field for all text remained unchanged.) I see no equivalent to this in Essential Graphics. I've looked at all controls and see nothing of the equivalent. Here's video I made illustrating the problem. (BTW, I copied a pargraph's worth of text in "new text layer" that illustrates what is happening.

I'm all hears for how one accomplises this basic requirement when dealing with text of fixed size that wraps to new lines without changing the width alloted for all the text.

You used only one of the two ways to create a text area ... that's the problem.

If you want a defined box area, after hitting the T for text tool, then click/drag to define the box area. Then add the text into the box.

Simply clicking on the "new text" icon or once in the Program monitor gets a text point not a real box.

Yea, it could be a lot more clear.
