How to: Changing the codec for your rendered video preview files

Did you know you can change the codec for your rendered video preview files? You can, and it's very easy to do.

 

  • Choose Editing Mode > Custom at the top of the Sequence Settings dialog box. 
  • Change the settings for the Video Previews > Preview File Format to ProRes, Cineform, or DNxHD/HR at the frame size that matches your sequence.

 

Why change the format for your rendered preview files?

  • One good reason is that you need to do this to set up your sequence for smart rendering (which allows you to export very quickly).
  • A smart rendering requirement is that you'd need to change the format for rendered video preview files to one that matches the settings of your export format.
