Question

How to compress .mp4 to Windows media video WM9 (WMV3) or VC-1

Can you please suggest which software to use to convert an mp4 video to specifically WM9 (WMV3) on a Mac computer. There is plenty to convert to WMV2, but I could not find anything for WMV3. Is it possible through any of the Adobe applications?

Hey there,

I'm not sure if these codecs are supported in Premiere Pro or Media Encoder. You can find the list of all supported formats here: https://helpx.adobe.com/media-encoder/using/file-formats-supported-import.html. Could you let us know what's the purpose for transcoding your files? Maybe we can find an alternative.

Thanks,

Ishan

Dear Ishan, thank you for your reply! The purpose for this transcode is to screen videos in the screens attached on wall in Athens International airport, Greece. The airport has apparently an old system that only plays VMW3 or VC-1.  Finally a friend managed to trascode it on a PC (maybe older generation?) in Flip4Mac  to WMV VC1 and I am waiting to hear from the airport to see if it works.

Was there any other way to go about it?

If it fails, try Shutter Encoder - Encoder|Converter video FREE PC|Mac to transcode your file to Windows media video. I have not found what flawour of WMV it creates though...

Dear Averdahl! Thank you for your reply. I had already tried Shutter Encoder, but it only exports WMV2 (WM8).
