How to decrease playback speed in preview

Community Beginner ,

Is there a way to slow down the playback speed in preview? L increases speed and J revereses playback, but I cannot figure out to slow playback down. I'm doing something finicky and it would be very helpful if I could do it at half speed.

Start with your timeline paused, but do click in the timeline to activate the panel.

Press shift+L and it will start moving very slowly. Press shift+L and it will speed up slightly and keep doing it and it will get to normal play speed.

If you are playing your video and you want to slow it down, press Shift+J and it will slow it down, and keep pressing that combo and it will slow down more and more. Same with the reverse.

And do try this also.

While playing - (spacebar or 'L') you can press shift+J to slow down the speed, until you get to the slowest same thing if you are going in reverse with J, you can press shift+L to decrease the speed... 🙂

Shift + L (or J) will do it.

Unfortunately, no.

L and shift + L both increase the speed of playback. J reverses direction. I'm looking for something that slows the forward playblack in preview.

I think at one time J might have slowed things down, but that is no longer true, at least in the iteration I am running on a Mac. I also suspect this might be something that can't be done in Premiere anymore.

J,K and L editing will never cease to exist.

First hold down the shift then press L (or J for left)

Works both in source and program monitor.

I'm not sure if people don't understand what I am asking, if I am not understanding the answers, or if there is something else going on.

When I am playing back and hit L, it speeds up. When I hit K, it stops. When I hit J, it reverses. When I hold down shift and press L, nothing happens except it jumps a little. I am looking for a way playback video, going forward, at a slower speed

Video to show how it is working for me:

OMG thank you! This is the explanation I have been looking for. I did not understand that I couldn't slow down playback while it was playing, but had to start from paused. Thank you SO SO MUCH.
