Question

How to keep a speaker within a cropped frame?

I film a lot of presentations that last about 30 to 45 mins. I edit them split screen with the powerpoint slides on one side and the video of the speaker on the other. I pan the camera as best I can to follow the speaker, but there will be times I miss it and they are off my frame. I spend a lot of time reviewing and key framing moving the position of the video to keep them within the frame, very tedious work. I was thinking to use a tracking mask in premiere, but how do you lock the position of the mask? Is there anyway to do this better? Thanks.

At Adobe MAX, they sneaked the following tech, Project Smooth Operator. I think it's just what you need.
Make a feature request here.

Thanks,

That's nice. When can we expect it?

Adobe Sneaks at MAX are just tech previews. They are not necessarily all going to become actual features. After Effects Content Aware Fill did find its way to the product, eventually, so you never know!

A suggestion may be to see about getting the pictures from the PowerPoint presentation. You could take the pictures into Premiere then concentrate your camera work on the speaker and cut between the speaker and the pictures. The slides would look better too.

Premiere does not have motion tracking.

You need Ae for what you want to do.

I wished the Tracker in AE was "smarter". I have hours of content and the tracker doesn't do a good job at tracking.
