One feature of speaking close to a mic is that their is usually a bass boost. you could try adding some low end. The main difference between close and distant is the amount of room colouration, there is very little with the close sound, reducing the colouration is almost impossible. You could always post sync the lines.....

ADR - Automatic Dialogue Replacement. Big budget films and shows do this all the time, based on line-delivery from talent, surroundings and recording levels at TOP (time of production). ADR was frowned upon hugely in the late 1900's, but has pushed through major hurdles and is a staple moving forward. Sure, you can artificially boost low end vocals in post, but there's no replacing talents' inflection in tone and coloration as described above. True audiofiles will recognize post vs ADR. The artistic choice is yours to make 🙂

If you have sound that sounds far away you can try to right click the sound clip and choose 'edit in audition' , and then there's a thing to adjust volume ( under effects tab I think ) ...and you can increase by a couple decibles, see how it sounds, increase again if you need to... repeat until it sounds close, then SAVE it and close audition, and go back to timeline.

If your sound is not a wav file then you could save it as a wav file at 48khz stereo and that should sound OK and edit well,

p.s. don't let any sound go above -6 db cause then your speakers will explode
