How to reactivate Blackmagic RAW filter??

I desperately need help.

I'm working on a project with Premiere 2024 on my Macbook M1 Pro running Sonoma 14.1.2. Some of the used files where BRAW files and everything was OK so far. I was able to work and color grade my BRAW files with lumetri.

Then I was trying to open two projects with BRAW files at the same time and that's where Premiere was giving me error messages. Premiere then offered me to deactivate the Blackmagic Raw filter, and I pressed OK. I assumed I could re-activate the filter later and do some quick changes without BRAW for a few minutes.

Now, when I open my file I get a message (in my German version), which translated means: "Videofilter is missing: Blackmagic Raw". I am able to see my raw files within the project, but they look completely different now, like very flat log-footage. I have looked everywhere in Premiere, in forums and in my system, but I can't find any way to reactivate this plugin/filter.

So what I tried next to reinstall Blackmagic Raw in the newest version 3.6.1. No change. I deinstalled and reinstalled. Restarted my Macbook several times, no change.

I'm quite desperate, because I need to deliver this project. Any help out there?

You can only use third party plugins, for BRAW. Adobe does not provide 'native' support.

Your choices are the BlackMagic freebie you apparently were using (with its continual problems), the Autokroma freebie, or the Autokroma paid version. As the paid Autokroma plugin is an excellent tool with several advancements over the freebie ones, I was happy to pay the small fee.

My recommendation is to use the free Autokroma plugin, instead the lousy BlackMagic one.  Autokroma's stuff actually works ... and besides, they provide better support on their website for the BlackMagic plugin than BlackMagic does ... as BM doesn't help with any BRAW struggles in Premiere at all.

I found the solutiuon to this issue, well for me this worked.

Since I have another computer I sometimes edit on and Blackmagic RAW was working fine in Premiere on it, I narrowed the issue down to the settings - the Preferences.

After trying a few things I went into my Library folder, the hidden one on Mac. For those that don't know, go to your Desktop and press Option and select "Go" in the top menu bar. It should reveal the Library folder.

After looking in Application Support/Adobe and finding nothing, I went into the Preferences folder and found the Preferences for Premiere Pro. I deleted any preferences that populated during and after the crash where I disabled the plug-in. I went as far back as 2024 to be safe since I haven't really changed much of my workspaces.

When I reopened Premiere I did not get the error saying that the filter was not found, but I also did not see the BRAW panel when I selected footage that was in the File. I imported new footage and the Effects Control panel returned.

Now I may have deleted a few other things, but I'm pretty sure it was the .plist files shown here that were causing the issue.

Hope this helps someone.

I should probably add a few more details. Another addition to trying to solve this was going back to Blackmagic RAW 2.1-2.3 which are the last versions that say anything about the Premiere Pro plugin. I noticed that none of the newew versions mention it at all.

I think the fix came from reisntalling that older version after uninstalling and resinstalling both the app and plug-ins with complete reset of cache and preferences. However, I think finding and deleting those preferences I mentioned before could be the quick fix without all the other workarounds.

If you have the BM freebie installed, and do not "wipe" it cleanly off the computer and outta Premiere, there will be conflicts with the Autokroma one. That is just gonna happen.

I had so many constant issues with the BM freebie just gave up and got the Autokroma Studio ... which has worked very well for me, only one hiccup ever and that was fixed in a day or so.

I shoot a lot of BRAW, out of a BMPCC4K and an Ursa MiniPro 4.6k G2. And do all my own post with it. LOVE shooting that BRAW ... it's slick for me to work with in Premiere. As easily as in Resolve.

This happened to me as well.

Here are my specs:

Apple Macbook M3 Max

Sonoma 14.3

Premiere Pro 2024 version 24.6.1 (Build 2)

Blackmagic RAW 4.2

Footage is BRAW shot on Blackmagic Pocket 4K

Initially, my Premiere project crashed.  Upon restart, Premiere prompted a message that said the project crashed due to the Blackmagic RAW plug-in and gave me the option to launch the project with the plug-in disabled.  I clicked disable.

Now, I am completely unable to re-enable the plug-in.

This is how it appears in my source window: "Filter Offline (Blackmagic RAW)"

I attempted to re-enable the plugin by navigating to the following "Manage Video Effects" section:

However, as you can see the plug-in doesn't even appear in the Video Effects Manager:

Here are the steps I've taken for Troubleshooting

• Uninstalled Premiere

• Uninstalled Black Magic Raw

• Re-installed Premiere

• Re-installed Black Magic Raw.

• Deleted Media Cache

• Deleted Media Cache Files

• Reset plugin loading cache

• Reset app preferences

• Restarted Computer

• Restarted Computer with PRAM Reset

• Opened other project files containing BRAW files (Same problem)

I am not interested in any Third Party plug-ins as an alternative to BlackMagic RAW.

It was working well before this one crash.  There has to be a way to re-enable the plug-in.

Adobe, please weigh in on this, thank you.

Hello,

Sorry I'm a bit late on this message I didn't see it before ..

I imagine you found a solution ? Otherwise for others which could come to the same issue, you can try to switch your project to BRAW Studio (FREE) which is a third party plugin which can also imports BRAW files into Premiere Pro, After Effects and Media Encoder. Switching your project by converting it with our special tool should fix the problem. Here is an article which explains how to convert your project from the BMD Plugin to BRAW Studio : https://www.autokroma.com/blog/How-to-convert-your-project-to-BRAW-Studio

Also note that the Premium license is not necessary and the BRAW Studio FREE version should give you the same FREE features the Blackmagic RAW plugin has (+ some fix and improvements). More info on Premium VS FREE here: https://www.autokroma.com/blog/BRAW-Studio-FREE-vs-Premium

Best,

Nicolas from Autokroma

Thank you Nicolas.
I had already found out about BRAW Studio and it sounds fantastic. I just was reluctant to make the change during a running project so I waited for help from the forum. None came.
So my quick fix was to grade my BRAW in Davinci, render it out and import it into Premiere to make minor adjustments there.
As the Blackmagic plugin was causing crashes and problems, I will switch to the ful version of BRAW Studio for my next project. Can't wait to use it.
Thanks Nicolas!

Have you tried updating to Blackmagic RAW 2.1?  That's the version that is compatible with Apple Silicon.
