How to unlink separate graphics

Before new update I could copy and paste the same text layer throughout my video and change each separate graphic as I went along without anything else being effected. This was a huge improvement over the now obsolete text layers which were all connected, and let me make new versions of my timeline without changing the old. Since the update this seems to have been undone and we're back to the old fiddly way of having to endlessly create new text layers and templates. Any idea if there's a way of unlinking my graphic layers?

I always ALT+drag a graphic to a new location in the timeline, for example with a subtitle that I've created (because the client wants it hard coded with specific formatting). Works like a charm.
