I want to use Write-on effect to draw a perfect square... how?

You can also play with the new 'Shape-Flow' transition, or use four line shapes and animate them. But AE is a very good choice as @Peru Bob noted.

As OP is using the write-on effect which is not present in 25.5 anymore.

I am guessing OP is using an older version which does not have Impact transitions etc.

Maybe someone else will come along and find the new Shape-Flow transition helpful. 🙂

Plus it's not hard to get those old effects. Just open a project that used the effect you want, and save it to a preset.

Write on effect is obsolete or removed from the program depending on the version you are using.

Use the blue guides or make a perfect shape in the Properties panel.

DRaw over with the write on effect.

The challenge is whenever you moved the Blue guides it tries to give you a rounded bend than a sharp 90deg turn... my eventual objective is to animate the drawing of a square, line by line...
