Importing Captions - issue with special characters

I'm having touble importing captions (.srt files), because Premiere seem do have problems reading special characters, such as "ã" or "ó" or "ç".

It reads perfectly, until it finds some of these characters. Then it stops.

Example:

12
00:00:53,283 --> 00:00:55,769
WHITE SULPHUR SPRING
- vinte,

13
00:00:55,770 --> 00:00:58,789
VIRGÍNIA OCIDENTAL, 1926
- vinte e um, vinte e dois...

It read up till VIRG. Than its blank. The whole file.

If I insert the captiosn manually, it works just fine.

Could it be something wrong with my Language Settings?

Any ideas?

(Premiere Pro, 23.2.0 Build 69).

Hi Raraju28,

I have the same issue loading Portughese .srt files.  I wonder if you have come up with a solution?

Thank you.

@TheVagabond,

Can you paste a bit of text that includes the problem characters?

Make sure the imported file is UTF8 with BOM. I still don't understand this, but I think these may be unicode characters that are not interpreted correctly.

Sometimes they come in as empty boxes etc. Any character PR doesn't understand (or empty line) can result in PR stopping imprort of a caption file.
