Importing from DV tape into Mac without Firewire

One of my video cameras records on DV tape. I have used Firewire in the past to capture into Premiere Pro. My new Mac Pro does not have a Firewire port. How can I capture into Premiere Pro on this new computer?

With this Apple adaptor:

Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter - Apple

I use it to capture HDV from a Canon HV-30 via the adptor > FireWire 9 pin to 4 pin cable.

It doesn't work since the adapter does not match my firewire cable. Is there a way to capture from a different cable.

Nope. The only way to get DV out of the camera is via the FireWire (iLink) port. You can get a 9 pin to 4 pin FireWire cable that will work with the Apple Thunderbolt Adapter.

If you still have your old computer, can you capture on it from the camera to an external drive and then move that drive to connect to your new computer?
