importing .mov files in Premier Pro

Hi. I'm just starting out to edit video in Premier Pro. In the beginning I plan to shoot footage with my DSLR (Nikon D810) which produces an .mov file with a codec of H.264/MPEG-4. I am running Premier Pro (version 2018.1.2) on a Mac.

I have seen a lot of confusing advice on the internet about how to import footage for a smooth running editing experience which involves transcoding and converting.

I would appreciate hearing from an expert about the easiest way to do this.

Again - shooting .mov footage and editing smoothly in Preriere Pro on a Mac. Thanks

    Kevin,

I'm far from an expert, but even as a rank amatuer, I can make a suggestion!  Watch some basic tutorials and just do it.  There should be nothing about the Nikon H.264 footage that will cause any trouble.  Stick with a half dozen short clips.  Don't worry about story details.  Put them in a project and output a video.  Discover the flow!

    Good luck!
