Question

Importing .MOV files into Premiere appearing as Audio Only

I'm experiencing an issue where .MOV files from my Fujifilm X-T4 are importing as audio-only in Premiere Pro (version 24.6.1). Video files I recorded and imported last week were ingested without an issue, now when I open the project created last week - I created an edit last week and now I cannot watch the video back and my project is full of errors.

Steps I've Taken:

  • Media Encoder: I ran the footage through Adobe Media Encoder, outputting the files in QuickTime format, but the problem persists.
  • Clearing Cache: I've cleared the media cache multiple times, but it hasn’t resolved the issue.
  • Premiere Version Rollback: I installed an earlier version of Premiere Pro to see if the issue was caused by an update, but that didn’t help.
  • File Integrity: I can view the .MOV files on my Fujifilm X-T4 without any problems, and none of the files are corrupted.

Please help me fix this issue, I am busy working across multiple projects and cannot lose a day to an asinine issue like this!

Edition Windows 10 Enterprise
Version 22H2
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19060.1000.0
Processor 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-11900 @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz
Installed RAM 64.0 GB (63.6 GB usable)
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

The .MOV file from your Fujifilm X-T4 contains video encoded in the HEVC (H.265) format, specifically with a Main 10 profile. Here are the key details of the file:

  • Video Codec: HEVC (H.265) - Main 10 profile, 10-bit depth
  • Resolution: 3840x2160 (4K)
  • Frame Rate: 59.94 fps
  • Pixel Format: yuv420p10le (10-bit color depth)
  • Audio: PCM signed 24-bit little-endian, 2 channels, 48 kHz

I am experiencing the same problem with .MOV files from my Panasonic Lumix G9-II.  Audio only inside any editor I try except for Microsoft's Clipchamp app which is terrible.

Thank you Kevin,

I've found the folder and see what you're talking about - I cannot personally change but will see what the IT administrators can do. Appreciate your assistance. Will write back when I have a solution.

Hello @Snr Dinger,

Thanks for the note. It looks like your files have not been imported correctly. Can you set the permissions for folders in this file path to R/W, then import?

C:\Users\Public\Documents\AdobeInstalledCodecsTier2\3.0

See this KB doc for the technique: https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/preferences-folder-read-only-error.html.

Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks,
Kevin

I've obviously explained this poorly based on the answers I'm receiving. My source monitor is displaying my .Mov (h.265) clips as audio only, Premiere does not interpret that video is associated with these clips.

I installed a new HEVC codec on my windows machine, now I can watch the videos in Windows Media Player - however, Premiere is still only displaying these as audio only in Premiere.

What you didn't include is a pic of the timeline panel header block. The most common cause of this is simple enough to overlook, it's incorrect track/source targeting set in the timeline header block.

So ... show us your timline header block, and please, just drag/drop the image directly into the text reply area. Then we don't have to click to open, it just shows up 'loaded'.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Hi @Snr Dinger - Were there any updates to your system recently, or anything else you can think of that has changed?  Can you try installing the beta and see if that helps your issue?  What errors are you seeing in your project?  Do you have any plugins installed?

I also work for the government and do not have authorisation to install new codecs etc. on my machine.
