Importing Music problem

When I import a music track via the Media browser and I select that track, the track is loaded and show into the left panel.

The panel shows the total (correct) length of the track next to the wrench icon lower right side of the panel.

However, the track itself is corrupted and is only half the length of what it is supposed to be.

For example, total track time is 4.20.20 (as shown next to the wrench) but actual track time in the panel is 2.10.10.
When I play the track you can hear that it skips parts of the music. When I play the track via the media player it is (not in premiere) it is fine.
I have tried mp3, m4a but that makes no difference.

Please help. Thanks

I recommend using only 24 bit 48 kHz .wav files in video post production.  You can use Audition to covert.

    Thank you Jim, that worked!

Still no idea why PP corrupted the MP3's. It did not used to do that.

    Thanks again.

Did you let it conform first before doing anything.

What extension does this audio file have?

Hi Ann, thank you for responding.
I am not quite sure what you mean by "confirm first".
The file has the extension .mp3 and m4a.
The point is, I am importing the music track in the same way I always do it. Never had any problems.
Just after the last update, this problem occurred.

Obviously, I can make the waveform wider to cover the entire screen of the left panel, but that does not make the length of the track longer.

    In addition to the above:
Some tracks are imported correctly and some other not. They are imported in exactly the same way. The original tracks itself are not corrupted and have the same extensions.
