Is my 4K proxy file(s) supposed to take hours to make?

Hi there,

I have a Macbook Pro (13 inch 2015 model, 3.1 GHZ intel core i7, 16 gbs memory) that is taking a long time to process proxy files in Premiere Pro 2017 11.0.

I have a 12 minute clip and the render time is over an hour using any of the defaults on the ingest menu. I also can't toggle between the 4k and the proxy while it's creating the proxy, as its still clunky. In fact the whole computer is clunky while this is rendering the proxy.

Is this normal?

Thank you!

Steven

Hi Steven,

I'd rip this file, which is likely captured in a variable frame rate, in Handbrake. Standard frame rates from pro cameras shouldn't exhibit this behavior.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Steven,

It doesn't seem quite right. What camera did you use to shoot the clip? Does it have a variable frame rate or a constant one?

Thanks,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

It was shot on an Iphone 6s plus in 4k. I imagine it is variable. I have read there are issues with iphone videos and Premiere Pro.

I'm more concerned about footage I will shoot with regular cameras like the Canon c300 or Sony AS II in 4K, as I will have tonnes of footage that I won't have time to wait this long for.

Thoughts?

Thanks!
