Question

Is this possible - a drag and drop type sequence with clip dimensions saved as a placeholder

Hi all, appoligies if I don't explain what I'm after very well but I'll give it a go! I occasionaly create portrait videos for social media using widescreen clips. Sometimes I crop so the video is full screen (obviously just a certral portion of the video visible) or sometimes I stack 3 videos on top of eachother.

Each time I create one of these I go through scaling the clips and positioning them each time but i'm wondering if there is a way to put some sort of adjustment layer or place holder on a sequence so that I can just drag my video directly from the source window (or elsewhere on the timeline) and drop it onto that placeholder and have that clip automatically confirm to the pre-determined dimensions (scale and position).

Is this doable??

Ann's solution is the best you can do without third party tools. If you want it even more efficient, I just created a tool with my (paid) extension Automation Blocks for you.

Just select 3 clips in the project panel and run the tool. It will create a new 9:16 sequence, insert the three selected clips and position and scale them to stack them on top of each other properly.

Here is a little tutorial about it:

To test it, just install the Automation Blocks free trial and download the custom tool I made for you here.

In Automation Blocks click the "load" button and choose that downloaded file. Now you have the tool open ready to run. If you use it frequently, copy the file to your user library instead such that it is always at your finger tips in the Automation Blocks library.

If you alt + drop a clip from the Project Window or Source Monitor over an exciting (edited) clip, this new clip will take on the exciting parameters.

You could make a timeline consisting of color mattes which are pred-edited (position and scale).

You can also use the Replace Clip feature.
