It seems almost impossible to export .avi from Premiere Pro on a apple computer 😞 Why is that? I've tried all the way to get it but nothing seems working properly. Quite strange is the only format missing...

Not to be snarky but honestly curious... why would you need to export an .avi file?

I love to see .avi because it makes me nostalgic... haha... but other than that I'm curious why you would need it?  Is there software you're using that works better using .avi's?  Or a client requirement?

Like Ann stated. AVI is Microsoft only.

Well, yes & no, not really.

An AVI extension is the same basic idea as a MOV, or an MP4 - they are container types, and the ability to vreate/generate & read them will depend on having the right codec installed.

For Adobe on Mac, try Lagarith or even better the UT Video codec suite - colour spaces for all needs, and all for free too. Just select 'AVI' in the drop-down, and select the required UT codec from the list. UT probably better as still being developed, so presumably getting more efficient with it.

Dont think you can install Lagarith or UT on a Mac.

Premiere on a Mac does not even over AVI in the export settings.

Vlc on mac allows to convert mov or mp4 to avi, why then?

The problem is that Adobe can only export to a format that's natively supported by your computer. MacOS does not support AVI natively (at least not without third-party converters or codec packs, which Adobe has warned against in the past).

What's more, AVI has always been associated for Macs with the now-completely-obsolete 32-bit QuickTime format (that means QuickTime 7, which is no longer supported any more by Apple).
