jpeg, pngs and dngs not importing into premiere pro

Hey! I took some photos on my sony a74 and they are ARW format (sony raw). I converted them to jpeg and then to png and neither would import into premiere pro. I then used the adobe dng converted and the dng files wouldnt import either. It says there is a header issue.

It is also doing similar in da vinci resolve. I can import the photos but it says media offline when i try to look at them in da vinci resolve. I am pretty new to photography/videography so any help would be amazing! thanks 🙂

Correct answer Madly media

So i tried exporting 2 images seperately (one by one) and that has worked! it may just be when i open them all up in preview at the same time and select all, then export all at once

@Madly media

Are you able to share one of your JPEGs or PNGs?

Or take another photo of something not related to your project, convert it the way you converted the other still images, verify that it too will not import, and then share that here.

I'm puzzled why you were charged $2 for Mac as it should be free as @Stan Jones points out.

This is the root Download Page for future reference :  https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo

To use the Tree option use the bottom left icon then select 'Tree' in the drop-down list

See attached

For grabbing a still from your Video Sequence timeline here is Adobe quick video

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/export-still-image.html

JPEG image is converted to 8 bit depth. Use other formats for higher colour depth.

As a matter of interest - what are your sequence settings using the Sony ARW Raw footage?

Use Sequence/Sequence Settings on Menu bar

Through the App Store under macOS, MediaInfo is 99 cents in the United States.

Pictures must be RGB not CMYK - old forum link is gone, so just save pics as RGB to use in Premiere Pro

Hi there,

Both JPEG & PNG are supported in Premiere Pro. Have you tried exporting again from the Preview app (File > Export > JPEG) to isolate any possible file corruption issue that might have occurred during the previous export? Also, if you have Photoshop/Lightroom/Bridge, you may use that to open your RAW files & export them in JPEG.

Thanks,

Sumeet

Could be the Colour space of the JPEG /PNG files not compatible or incompatible bit depth?

Try converting to Rec 709  4-2-0 8Bit

Firstly, Adobe .DNG files are not supported in Premiere Pro.

I did raise a feature request on that a while back but I don't think it is going to happen soon.

As regards your JPEG and PNG conversions from Sony ARW, what did you use for the conversion?.

It would be useful to see text profile of a couple of sample image files you have for each jpeg and png

Use MediaInfo tool. Download> https://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download

Use the Tree option and select text output to see File characteristics. Post this for Community to take a look.

Does Premiere Pro instantly reject the files immediately you try 'Import'.

Hey! Thanks so much for the response.

I used the preview app and clicked export and then exported the photo as a
JPEG and PNG.

I purchased the media info toll app but cant see an option for a tree.
maybe i need to subscribe? i have attached screenshots of some of the
options i can see with a photo imported.

Yes, so i drag the photo in as it says header issue straight away.

@Madly media,

Your screenshots are not attached. You can't attach files when responding via email. You must logon to the forum and respond.

MediaInfo is free. Maybe you clicked on one of the spam links on that page?
