Keyboard Shortcut (ctrl+alt+K) panel not working in Premiere 15.4.1

I usually save my keyboard preferences offline as a .kys file- useful for work as they run Premiere 2021 (15.4.1). The problem is that the pop-up window for keyboard shortcuts just does not open, forcing me to work with default shortcuts. My current workaround is to open the project file in Premiere 2020 (14.9), but the compromise is the bugs associated with dynamic link between After Effects 2021 (18.4.1). So far, a clean install of PP hasn't worked out, nor user preference soft reset (ctrl+alt+OPEN), nor downloading setting (syncing) with my CC account. Anybody else with this issue, or just me?

Correct answer Benji_Sensei

can't read type on your png file.  Can you limit your search to file name, cause I'm guessing that you can't have that many files with the .kys extension...

Your hunch on the permission issue gave me the thought to check my Syncing settings. Usually syncing fails for me, never able to download them, that's why I've been always manually copy-pasting my .kys file in the directory.

What seems to work is to "Clear Settings". This is usually always greyed out for me, but I thought, since your last synced settings is tied to your CC account, it would automatically try to download those preferences when installing PR. And voila! I cleared the current settings, and made sure my preferred keyboard shortcut (the .kys file) is in the right directory:

MacBookProSSD⁩ ▸ ⁨Users⁩ ▸ GenericName ▸ ⁨Documents⁩ ▸ ⁨Adobe⁩ ▸ ⁨Premiere Pro⁩ ▸ ⁨15.0⁩ ▸ ⁨Profile-CreativeCloud-⁩ ▸ ⁨Mac⁩

C:\Users\98reu\OneDrive\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Pro\15.0\Profile-98reu\Win

And after reopening PR and clicking (ctrl+atl+k) I was able to access the keyboard shortcuts pop-out menu to my heart's content- This took literal months to get to here, it was quite straight forward to be honest, I just needed a different perspective, thanks mate! @Michael Grenadier

Hi Support team,

First of all, thank you for the quick reply- I've been inundated with work, so apologies for the radio silence on my end.

I find this issue quite fascinating, because it doesn't seem to be a workspace split across different monitors as I work off a single laptop (project settings are set to "this PC screen only"), and other pop-up windows such as "preferences" and "Project Manager" open just fine. I've since tried opening "keyboard shortcuts" on every ver 15 available to be downloaded through Creative Cloud.

Unfortunately, the good old copy-paste of your .kys file into the respective directory doesn't work either as PP defaults to the standard keyboard layout and I'm unable to open the keyboard shortcuts menu to switch user preferences.

Isn't this most curious, as I haven't read or met any other editors with this bug. Perhaps, it is my windows ver.?- but I've been having this issue since the release day of PP ver.15. There is no rush, working with AFX ver.18 and PP ver.14 is a serviceable workable, with few bugs here and there dealing with DLS that's all. At this point I'm just most curious as to what is it with my system causing this particular bug- I'm happy to quench your curiosity as well, let me know if you would like any diagnostic files I suppose.

Just in case it isn't clear, most of us here are not adobe employees, just users who are helping other users...

Something odd is definitely going on if there's some sort of permissions issue going on...

I'd do a system wide search for .kys in case there's some other place on your system that's storing .kys files.

do you have more than one user account on your system?

Keep us posted when you have time to dig in to this again.  Version 15 has a few new features that are very valuable.  If you're working with captions, it's really necessary.

I was just being cheeky with "support team"...

I definitely want to get to version 15, you're right, the captions workflow is amazing at work, I'm just slower at editing as my muscle memory keeps hitting my keyboard preferences.

Your hunch on some sort of permission issue is probably right, however, I only have one user account access to this PC. I took up your suggestion and made this system-wide search for ".kys". Here are the results attached to this message (I'd admit it would be easier to read as a spreadsheet). The only strange results seem to be some .kys files I keep offline on my working drive, and what seems to be a mac directory to a .kys file (probably an artefact from the days I used to use preferences syncing between Mac and Windows systems). Do you see anything abnormal apart from that?

Hi Benji_Sensei!

Sorry for the trouble. Is your workspace split across multiple monitors? If so, try to use a single monitor and check.

Let us know.

Thanks

Kartika

Wondering if you should reset your preferences as the behavior you're seeing is not normal.

you can manually copy the .kys file to the correct loaction.  On a mac, here's the path for where to place the .kys file

MacBookProSSD⁩ ▸ ⁨Users⁩ ▸ ⁨michaelgrenadier⁩ ▸ ⁨Documents⁩ ▸ ⁨Adobe⁩ ▸ ⁨Premiere Pro⁩ ▸ ⁨15.0⁩ ▸ ⁨Profile-CreativeCloud-⁩ ▸ ⁨Mac⁩

You can also do a OS search for .kys to find the location if you're on windows or maybe someone else can post the location.  Post back if you can't find it.  I'll be in my studio tomorrow where I can check on a windows machine.
