Lagging and audio cutting out

I'm editing a film and I'm having an issue where the video will suddenly lag and the audio will cut out. Also worth noting is that the audio meter doesn't read anything when the sound drops. My current workaround is to either pause and replay the footage or, if I need to watch an entire scene, export it and watch it outside of Premiere. I'm editing MXF and MOV files with embedded audio, if that's relevant.

    Have you checked if the audio cache creation is completed in Premiere Pro? Sometimes, incomplete audio cache creation can lead to playback issues.

    What version of Premiere Pro are you using?

    I've already tried clearing my media cache and it didn't work.

    I have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-8950HK CPU @ 2.90GHz, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with Max-Q Design, 32 GB RAM, and the footage is stored on a 5 TB external HDD.

    Could you tell us about the raw footage you're working with, specifically the metadata such as resolution, frame rate, codec, and file size?

    Also have you created proxies for editing?

    Try : Preferences > Audio Hardware > Input > None

    Unfortunately, my audio hardware input is already set to "No input."
