Less thinking time, smoother program use

Hi!


I use Adobe Premier Pro, with the following preferences;

Win 10
CPU: Intel Core i3-10100F 4-Core 3.6GHZ
RAM: 16 GB
GPU: Radeon rx 570 series 4gb

Adobe Premier Pro 22.2

Other Plugins I still use;

Red Giant Universe 6.1.0
NewBlueFX
BorisFX \ Sapphire 2022 Adobe

I usually work in full hd, but it's often inconvenient that when I add a plugin to the video, the software thinks a bit too much. Very rarely, sometimes the program crashes when I try to work with a more demanding effect.

I've pushed the hardware requirement to use as much RAM as the final value, if possible, but it doesn't seem to have enough. What hardware component can I use to avoid this in the future? What should I make more powerful in the pc configuration?

I usually set the playback quality to 1/4 so that I can work quickly and easily, because if I set it to 100%, all my projects would be quite slow and groaning. (I always try to clear the cache regularly)

These are small things, how can I fix them to avoid more serious lag and stuttering in the future?

    What’s Holding You Back?

    1. Your CPU (Intel i3-10100F) – This processor is a bit underpowered for effects-heavy work. Premiere Pro loves more cores and higher clock speeds.
    2. RAM (16GB) – With effects and HD footage, you’re probably hitting your memory limit fast.
    3. GPU (Radeon RX 570, 4GB VRAM) – This card is getting old, especially for modern plugins that rely on GPU acceleration.
    4. Storage Speed – If you’re using an HDD for cache or media, it’s slowing things down significantly.

     

    What Can You Upgrade?

    If you can upgrade just one thing, start with the CPU.

    ✔ Lower Playback Quality – You’re already doing this at 1/4 resolution, which is great. Also, turn off High-Quality Playback in the Program Monitor.

    ✔ Enable GPU Acceleration

    • File > Project Settings > General → Set Renderer to GPU Acceleration (OpenCL or CUDA for NVIDIA)

    ✔ Render in Chunks

    • If effects slow you down too much, select clips and hit Enter to pre-render them.

    ✔ Use Proxies for Smoother Editing

    • Convert footage to ProRes Proxy or Cineform Proxy so your timeline plays back smoothly.

    ✔ Clear Cache Regularly

    • Edit > Preferences > Media Cache → Delete Unused Cache Files
