Hello,
I am relatively new with premiere pro and have run into an issue with cutting clips. As my timeline plays, I'll pause and cut a part of the sequence. I will click play again and pause at the next cut section. When I select cut again, it only cuts the audio. The clips are currently listed as still linked. Are there any suggestions on how to resolve this? Unlinking the clip and audio and linking them again does not resolve the issue. Similarly, I will click on a part of the timeline and the video is the only part selected, but it says it's still linked.
Thank you for any advice.
I figured it out - I was using the social media template and that was messing with the process. I stopped using the template and everything is linked now. Trial and error. Thanks everyone for their input.

In your screenshot, all the options are deselected. So Linked Clips is not on at that time.

Those icons in the upper left of the Timeline panel header block, in your image ... that are all gray?
Now look at Ann's image up above. THAT is where you set ... and control ... this behavior.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. I cannot get the control to be anything other than grey. It never turns blue. I included an image with the side-by-side of Ann's image and what I am seeing. The top image on the right is with linked selection clicked and the bottom is with it deselected. Regardless of which is used, my clip and audio remain unlinked. Am I doing something wrong?

Clicking on those icons doesn't change their state? How about clicking on other items, like in the header block of the sequence, or in the navigation button/icons in the Program monitor?

If the button (linked selection) is not active you will still be cutting just video or audio despite the video and audio are linked in the context menu.
Your screenshot clearly shows the issue.
Just highlight the button and try it.............

Hi there. Thanks for your help. The issue persists whether the button is selected or deselected. It makes no difference. Any suggestions?

All I can say button must be highlighted and audio and video linked.

No, if you turn off Linked Selection, you will cut only video or audio of a linked clip.
OP wants to cut video and audio at the same time.

Yes, I know. I'm just confirming what you've been saying on this thread. It's strange in that the OP didn't seem to want to click that button and try it! 🙂

Hello, would be grateful for any advice - clicking the button on or off doesn't change anything. Any thoughts on what I could try? Thanks!

Shutdown and restart your computer.
Create a new project
Add a clip with linked audio, and make a sequence with
With the clip not selected, make sure that button is on.
Click the video portion
They both light up (audio and video)
With the clip not selected, make sure that button is OFF.
Click the video portion
Only the video lights up.
