Low Proxy with sony a7iii hlg files on premiere pro 2023

Hi there,

I'm experiencing issues with generating HLG file proxies on my a7iii. I am only given the option to generate them in medium or high resolution and not in low resolution. I have tried creating a custom profile with Media Encoder, but it still only gives me the two options. In 2021, I did not have this problem. However, the files from my a7siii are still being supported perfectly and I can create low proxies. Can you help me with this issue? Thank you very much.

Are you saying you can't make proxies at the ProRes - Low setting?

I can't speak to what's changed between the software versions in this regard, but can I ask why you need HLG proxies?

Generally one just uses proxies to edit with, then you turn the proxies off to grade the raw HLG footage. So the proxies can be SDR, no need for HDR.

Hi, first of all, thank you for your reply! No, I'm not interested in having HLG proxies. A 1024px * 576px proxy at 6mbps, even in Rec 709, would be fine for me. The problem is that the proxy created by Premiere with the "Medium" setting, which is the lowest available, is still a quite heavy file at 10mbps.

I don't know if I've been clear enough, I apologize for my poor English.

No problem!

Did you mean 10 Mbps? That's not heavy at all, it's quite low. Is your computer having trouble playing this back?

What are the options available in the dropdown menu when you try to create proxies?
