Make a clip longer by holding the last frame?

I have a 3 second animated clip. How can I extend the clip to 5 seconds where all frames after 3 seconds is just duplicates of the last frame?

Right now I duplicate the clip, then on the 2nd clip I put a frame hold on the out point, resize the clip to 2 seconds, and then put these two clips one after another.

Is there a simpler way?

Correct answer Ann Bens

My fast way is to cut the last frame and stretch this single frame with stretch tool.

Frame hold does not seem to work with key frames. In other words, if I add a frame hold to a clip, it becomes impossible to have effect keyframes do anything such as animating mask opacity etc. Is that anyone else's experience? I have to do a frame export to make that work.

An animated mask works just fine here on a hold frame.

Hold Frame is a wonderful tool. Map it to a keyboard command (I use 'F2') to have it available at a keystroke.

A third way is to do a frame grab of the last frame and import that into the project and drag it out to the desired length.

Both Kevin and Ann have good answers ... because there is normally more than one way to do anything you can do in Premiere.

Yes, avpromedia, there is. Park the playhead on the last frame of the clip and then right-click (WIN) or Ctrl-click (macOS) and choose > Add Frame Hold. A one-frame freeze frame is edited in as the final frame, and you can extend that to the length you need. See if that works for you.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hello Kevin - I tried to use the method you described and also other methods indicated by other users, but the result is not what I need.

Here attached the images before and after making the freeze frame: at the end of the mp4 lenght, instead of having the freezed image, I find again the first frame of the same video.
I hope this problem can be solved.

You need to move the right clip to make room in order to make the stretch.
