Make black background transparent for an essential graphic template overlay?

Hi! Are you talking about a Motion Graphics template created from within Premiere Pro or After Effects? Either way they should automatically we transparent. For example, if you create a template that only contains a text layer, than the rest of the template is transparent.

Ok I figured out what you were telling me. Placing the effect above the video makes it transparent. Thank you.

It seems to be most of these effects have black background. We can use the template "film title" for example.

 That template is transparent, if you place anything on a track underneath it will only show the text. See my screenshot, I places a color matte underneath.
