Mask an FX using a Clip/Sequence and or Mask a Clip using a Clip/Sequence

I have been searching all over for help on this and can't find it.

I have a 300 frame rendered animation sequence (.png or .jpg files) in Premiere Pro with FX on it such as Mosaic.

I have a 300 frame rendered animation sequence to match where some objects are white and the rest is black. This is my mask. These too are .png or .jpg.

I need to use the black and white mask sequence animation to either

1. Mask out FX such as Mosaic

or

2. Duplicate the original sequence, turn off the Mosaic effect, and then mask that clip using the black and white sequence.

How can both or either of these be achieved? I swear i've done the second method before ages ago but I can't find information on it out there.

I'm with Richard. Though I think I understand what you're doing, actually seeing a few screen grabs would help clarify it alot.

That said, I do think the Track Matte effect is probably the best bet. Though in this complex, complicated app, there's always at least four ways to do anything it seems. So someone like @Jarle Leirpoll might have a really spiffy way of doing this ... the rest of us haven't thought of yet.

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

With the Track Matte Method the video layer stack is getting big. The area where i'm using it is forcing me to add more and more video layers just to do a couple more simple things because it eats 2 layers to do it. The duplicate and the Mask.

What I want to do, as seen in the attached image, is to mask an Effect on a clip by a sequence, just like Track Matte but instead its masking an effect. There is a mask on the effect. I use those. But they are not robust enough for what I want ot do, I need image render sequences for this one, not the pen tool.

Compositing and Motion Graphics in Premiere Pro can be a struggle. I'd move this to After Effects. One thing that can help if you must do it in Premiere Pro is to nest the whole stack of clips, so the main timeline only has one clip.
