I'm trying to mask for the first time.
I've watched the tutorials and I think I'm doing it right but my mask selection doesn't mask anything. It just selects the area.
I don't understand what I'm missing.
Also the settings keys on Mask path are greyed out.
What am I doing wrong?

I've noticed Mask 2 controls are visible and not grey.
But I've only done one mask.

What are you trying to apply mask to?
Can you share some screenshots?

SO these are the screen shots. I'm trying to mask the door as the video transitions through so it reveals the one underneath.
I select it, but it just sits there as selected. On the tutorial it shows that something is removed at that point but it doesn't do it for me.

Try altering Opacity, mask opacity, and the invert button.

It doesn't do anything. It's like the selection isn't linked to a mask.

You seem to have 2 masks in your Effect Controls panel. Delete them. Create a new mask (Mask 1) and then try to alter Mask Opacity.

Oh Matek. You are a life saver. It was the extra masks causing the problem.
Thank you so much.

Just realised by spell check altered your name.

There is your first mask.
You can only do one at a time.
If you are working on mask 1, mask 2 will be gray.
