Question

Master audio clip volume before other effects (ex. compression)

Hello, I would like to know if it is possible for the audio mixer to have the master clip volume after the other effects (compression, gates, etc...) because if it is before it affects the compression/gate threshold, which is not ok

Hello Bob etc.,

I don't find your video helpful in illustrating your problem, however I believe you are correct in that clip volume adjustments occur before effects on a clip as you have described it.

Adobe's documentation is not clear on this and does not have a gain staging description anywhere actually stating this. ( @Kevin-Monahan documentation issue. )

I would suggest either you use the "channel volume" effect or audio nesting.

With the "channel volume" effect, it can be placed at the end of the effects chain, after your other effects, and used instead of clip volume controls to adjust level.

With audio nesting, you would apply your audio effects to clips, then nest these clips in a sequence. The nested clip will have its own clip volume which will occur after the audio effects within.

Hope that helps - I'd be intested to know your workaround in any event.

R.

Hi @Remote Index,

Thanks for the input. Is this the page that you think needs improvement? https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/overview-audio-audio-mixer.html. I looked at the section, "Processing order for audio.." Is that where you'd like to see more info about how audio is handled in the Audio MIxer?

This page might also be a location for the info you want  to see: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/audio-track-mixer.html.

Let me know what specific changes you'd like to see on the appropriate page. I can alert the docs team and they can work with developers in improvement.

Thanks,

Kevin

Thanks @RemoteIndex and @Kevin-Monahan for the reply,
unfortunately my demonstration was not recorded with audio.
the problem is not in the clip audio-mixer panel, the problem is in the effects panel where the "Volume" effect is pre-mix and cannot be moved after the other effects to be post-mix.

Thanks,

Ovidiu
