Match Frame broken in Premiere Pro CC?

So match frame works in CS6, but in Premiere Pro CC, there are a couple odd things happening for me. When pressing F the Source panel will exibits any one of a few different behaviors (seems entirely random):

1. A black frame

2. The correct clip, but not the correct (matched) frame.

3. Occassionally the correct (matched) frame (usually only the first time I use Match Frame on any given clip in my sequence). All subsequent Match Frame commands while on the same clip in the sequence will not update to match Source with Program, they'll either stay on the first matched frame for that clip, or go black.

You can still drag the audio (or video) portion from the Source panel to the timeline and it will be the correct portion of audio (or video), but actually "matching" a frame seems broken in Premiere Pro CC (again, it works in CS6).

Checking in five years later and have the same issue. Match frame on my merged clips matches to the wrong frame on the right clip. I do have markers in merged clips. Very frustrating it’s been this long and the issue is not resolved.

Hi there...

more then a year later I've fallen upon this problem as well. I have my proxy footage synched to audio as merged clips- I am working only with these merged clips. Match frame doesn't work correctly- it matches the clip, but not the i/o points.... It's frustrating.... Also- source patching for inserting/overwrite is not working.. When I un-patch my audio tracks- it still inserts the audio. Am I doing something wrong or does premiere have a hard problem managing merged clips?

Long ago I made the decision to sync my footage wholly within PluralEyes (standalone). I export cloned clips that have the dual system audio nicely trimmed and added to the clip. Yes, it temporarily doubles your drive space requirements. I import those clips into premiere. No merging required, and everything works perfectly. This won't help you here, but it's a great workflow for dual system audio in the future.

Until recently, I used Pluraleyes as well but with the last couple of releases I've found multicam clips and merged clips to work fine as well as the match frame aspect of those clips so unfortunately it sounds like an isolated problem to some systems and not others.

I'm having this problem, too, much as others have described. I can add one thing, however. I've only noticed the problem when using native XDCAM EX footage. ProRes HQ footage, recorded at the same time on a Hypershuttle external recorder, (fed via SDI from the same camera), takes match frames perfectly. In the same time line, using the same technique. (For the record, using PPro CC 7.0.1 on a Mac Pro, OS 10.7.5., and I filed a bug report, too.)

rar100, thanks for posting. The lack of forum posts in relation to this bug made me think that I was relatively alone with this problem.

PPCC has been updated again this past week and so I'm hoping that the bug has now been addressed but I haven't had a chance to test it out.

For the record, my problem showed up when I was editing with sony raw 4k files merged with audio wav files.

Adobe Premiere Pro CC: I imported my old project from Adobe Premiere CS6 into Adobe Premiere CC and cannot match frame any clips from the origal project, unless I selcect the clip by clicking on it, which highlights it, and then I have to set my new in-point. This is definatley a step backwards for Adobe Premiere. Please make Premiere's match frame act more like Avid. Whatever track I have selected I should be able to match frame that clip wherever the cursor bar is located, and then, it would also be nice if it would set the appropriate in-point that I had just match framed. Please fix.

Hi Wyatt1976,

Sorry for your trouble. I tried the same thing you did. I imported my Adobe Premiere CS6 into Adobe Premiere CC and was able to match frame without any trouble.

In my experience, Match Frame does not set new In or Out points. You are merely matching back to the original clip with the In and Out points already set by you. If you wish to set a new In point where the playhead is located, just press I.

I am using a similar system as you, but I'm running OS X 10.8. You might try deleting preferences and performing a match frame once more to see if it works. It's functioning fine for me, even subclips.

It might have something to do with the footage you are using. You could also try a test where you use different footage to see if it's the media or your installation of Premiere Pro gone wrong.

Hey all just wanted to say that apparently you need to select the track that the clip is on you are trying to match frame and then place the CTI over the clip you want to do it to. Doesnt seem to matter which clip is selected or not, all seems to depend solely on which track is selected (The top most track takes priority if multiple tracks are selected)

I haven't tried it on any Merged clips, per se, but I've had other issues with merged clips. I noticed the Match Frame problem with just a few clips from a camcorder with audio.

I haven't seen it yet with straight clips, and the problem was intermittent on my machine. I now can't get it to trip up at all. Not sure what's going on.
