Hello Ashwath etc.,

I am not convinced that your timeline lengths would be the issue. However, more information would help.

What version of Premiere Pro are you using?

What is the format of your original footage (wrapper, codec, resolution, framerate)?

What is the format of your transcodes? (same info as above)

Are you using Premiere Pro's built in proxy workflow (ie. did you import the camera originals, and then use Premiere Pro to generate and connect proxies?) Or did you generate proxies outside of Premiere Pro and only import them?

How large is your project file (in MB)?

You have identified this as a "memory leak". Why? Have you been getting specific error messages? What are they?

You say you can't export the files. What happens when you try to do an export?

All of this information may help those here in the forums try to address your problem.

Latest premier pro version 2024

I got it converted from the arri Alexa camera raw files to mxf format codec: dnxhd 115 bit outside premier pro

300mb is the .prproj file

Moment I open the software the ram gets completely used in spite of allocation given to pr. It really struggles to open the software. Once it does u click any timeline ram gets sucked completely and I get a pop up saying sytem running out of memory close the application. And then system gets freezed and it force quit the app.

right now I can't able to export anything from pr it just gets freezed

and this s for a Indian film and it's in the closing stages of post production and pr has put me into this situation. First the same situation happened in iMac 2016 model I taught the system would be slow and shifted to M1 Max laptop. This s also facing the same issue. I don't know how to get out of this.

Based on this information, I would say the main point of concern I see is the project size - 300MB is very large.

I would suggest you break this project down into a Production - if you are not aware, a production is like a group of closely related projects. Start here. That will give you basic information.

The next step will be to break down your huge project into smaller projects within a production. The difficult part will be that you actually need to be able to open the project first for this to work. Start a blank production, then open the project in question, then break down the elements in the large project into smaller projects within the production. (by dragging into new projects, or copy and paste ... either way it will be slow going as both these actions require memory to perform). Alternately, you can try starting a new production and importing selected sequences from the project. Do this until you have all the old elements organized in a new production.

I am confident if you manage to do this you will see improvements in performance.

In future, productions (not just projects) should be used for large film projects like the one you are on.

(There's a related discussion of project sizes here, including comments from Mitch W, Adobe employee.)

Can you tell us some more information about your project:

What is your project file size?
What is the duration of your timeline?

What kind of media are you using (size, codec)?

Where is your media stored?

Thanks,

Paul

The project is for a 2 and half hour film.

maximum timeline duration is 1 hour 15 mins. But have multiple timelines.
All the transcoded files are stored in a external (lacie) powered Hardisk.

am working on transcoded footage of arri Alexa camera, which is mxf format dnxhd codec

All footage and asserts alltogther would be 4tb.

Hi Ashwath,

Thanks for the additional information.

The long timelines are most likely causing the memory leak. The first thing I suggest is to break your film into 20-minute reels. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Divide your project into multiple sequences, each about 20 minutes long. I recommend doing this using Sequence > Make Subsequence.
  2. If you need to combine these reels, add the reels to a new sequence as nested sequences. This way, your working timelines stay short even if your film is long.

This should help reduce the memory usage and prevent the system from freezing.

I'm also curious, what connection are you using for your Lacie drive?

Let me know if this helps or if you need more assistance!

Thanks,
Paul
