metadata and timecode burn-in effect not working on merged clips

Applying metadata and timecode burn-in to an adjustment layer, in order to show metadata related to clips below on the timeline such as scene, log note, source timecode.

With regular clips this works fine, but when merged clips are used it no longer works, ecxept for timecode and comments.

to reproduce:

combine video and audio to make a merged clip, add to timeline.

edit scene, shot, description, log note, comment data in the project panel for the merged clips.

set the metadata and timecode burn-in plugin to display these parameters, and only the comment metadata will show.

Premiere version: 25.1 on Windows 10 (but bug has been around since previous versions)

Hi @Pablo Diartinez -  Avoid using the “Merge Clips” option if you rely on metadata, as it is known to remove all metadata from the clips.

Jamie's advice is sound, and...

Merging clips doesn't remove that metadata, but it does make it impossible for PPro to decide which metadata to use. 🙂

Using multicam over merged clips is indeed sound advice, and...

is irrelevant to the issue at hand: the bug which makes the metadata and timecode burn-in effect not behave as expected with either merged or multicam clips.

So, repectfully, I consider this bug report to be unsolved. 🙂

I just tested in 25.1 and it is working as expected.  Can you share a screenshot or screenrecording of your effect settings and what you see vs what you expect?

Certainly 🙂

a little explanation, in the project panel you can see the clip selected that is being displayed in the timeline monitor. The effect control panel shows the effect applied to the adjustment layer (green "metadata" layer in the timeline).

here's what happens with multicam clip: the only metadata that shows is the source timecode

with a merged clip, timecode and comment show, but not description (nor scene, log note, shot... not applied to the effect for sake of brevity)

finally, when the timeline cursor is over a simple source clip, the metadata comes through as expected:

I am also using 25.1. I would be interested to know how you made it work in your project.

Thank you very much for your help!

P.S. As I'm not sure if the inlayed pictures are viewable at full resolution, I've attached them below as well. Hopefully it won't be too messy 😉
