Question

Morph Cut creates mouth movement where there is none.

I'm using Morph Cut to transition between two shots of a person talking against a green screen (interview).  In the first clip the person finishes their sentence and his mouth is closed / stationary the last three frames of the clip.  In the second clip the person is not talking, mouth closed / stationary.  I used a 6 frame morph transition evenly straddling the two clips.  Somehow the Morph Cut makes the person's mouth open & close during those 6 frames.  Why?

Am I using the Morph Cut incorrectly?

Try changing the duration of the morph cut (sometimes lower duration works) and/or moving the cut point slightly. Often you'll have to play around with these to get Morph cut to work the way you want.

Thanks for the suggestion.  I played around with the duration and position of the transition but it still created mouth movement where there was none.  So I gave up on the Morph Cut.

The context is this:   I am trying to fade-to-black at the end of a sentence without showing the subject beginning his next sentence.  I only need 1 second of extra ending to fade-to-black.

My solution was to duplicate the first clip (where the subject finishes speaking) then reverse it, then reduce the speed to 50%, and then attach it to the end of the original clip.  This way his mouth remains closed long enough for me to fade-to-black.

This has been an issue I've seen with specific videosd over the last couple of months. I just found out someone else on the team is getting the same thing, so am chiming in here. It is not just the result of a poor transition, the person literally turns into a freak for the duration of the transition. It's almost as if the plugin went and fetched frames from a completely different place on the timeline, cause it sure aint coming fropm the frames I'm trying to morph. She has a small smile going into the transition, a small smile coming out of it, no open mouth during. After the transition, her mouth is wide open/closed/open/closed/open. It only seems to happen on certain videos, cause others are fine and it works well. My other team member got the same error, using the same subject. She shoots using a particular webcam, so first thoughts is that the webcam is capturing with some non standard codec that premiere doesn't like, and is literally not picking frames from the desired area to do the crossfade.

Morph Cut looks at the clips underneath the transition icon and builds the transition based on those frames.
