MPG To ProRes Loses Audio - Looking For Best Solution

I'm starting a doc project that will use a lot of old DV footage in MPG. I'm converting all files (other formats as well) into ProRes 422 LT before I begin. Most of the MPG files transcode in Media Encoder fine, but some lose audio, which, I asume is because they are Dolby AC3, which I understand is no longer supported by PP.

As a workaround, I have found that if I convert the problematic clips to MP4 in Handbrake (which doesn't support ProRes), I can then import them and use the audio to replace the blank audio in the ProRes clips. I would then export that clip as ProRes and reimport them so that the clip will retain the correct audio track for all future use.

I'm wondering if there is an easier way to replace audio in clips without the circuitous round trips. Is there a way to replace the audio in a clip within PP? Some way to unlink the audio and replace it?

Thanks.

Tried Shutter and it won't open on a Mac. I get a warning of malicious software. So I've tried Media Encoder, Resolve and Shutter  without sucess. There has got to be some way to get MPG files converted into something PP can work with, but I'm stumped.

Disregard. Forgot you had to right click. Trying it now. Thanks.

Hi, Mike.

Try Shutter Encoder (donation-ware).  As long as the mpg file can be added to the source list and previews with sound, you should be good to batch transcode to ProRes 422 LT.

If you are still having trouble and are able to make one of your clips available via a download link (click my user name from this post to message me directly), I can see about coming up with a way to get to ProRes in fewer steps than what you are currently doing.

Thanks Warren, I'll try Shutter. It just occured to me that a simpler fix might be to create new clips via merged clips or multicam from the ProRes video and the audio I transcoded in Handbrake. Appreciate the help.
