Question

.MTS 3D 1920x1080 convert into Left eye & Right eye or SBS or UP/DOWN (3D) 1920x1080 .MP4 to edit

3D Framed (not VR) videos:

Can I import 3D .MTS 1920x1080 files and export .MP4 left & right eye videos (or SBS or Up/Down) 3D video - same resolution?

Can the .MTS file be imported into PP or AE and exported as 3D SBS or U/D? I could not find the right settings to do this without checking VR, but then the file was distorted.

PP did not recognize the .MTS file as 3D in the viewing window or as two tracks.

Are there still (I think there used to be) settings in PP AE and other Adobe programs to work easily with non-VR 3D files?

I also could not find or create a preset that would do the conversion in Media Encoder. Is it possible?

How? What are the settings.

Thx!

I'm assuming you're able to open the .mts files in premiere.  What do they look like?  A screen grab might help.   And what are the properties for the .mts files?

The files open in .MTS in Premiere Pro looking just fine as monoscopic. When played on the cameras viewfinder they show as 3D. When transcoded to .MP4 either by exporting in Premiere Pro or using Media Encoder, they look just fine as monoscopic. When the VR button is checked, they come out distorted, but not up/down or sbs in a way that can be played correctly.

The .MTS files come from a SONY 3D video camera.

As I understand it, .MTS files include a monoscopic view and a difference view, so (essentially) monoscopic => 2D and if you want 3D you need mono for one eye & mono + difference for the other eye (or mono +diff, mono - diff). But I've never seen a real spec from which I could program a transcoding.

VLC opens the file as mono. FFmpeg now has one of the most confusing download pages I've ever seen. As for googling, I tried a few of the promoted solutions out there and they did not work, but I am learning a little about .MTS.

MAGIX used to import .MTS corrrectly, but I tried it and it did not work now. They bought Vegas, which was the SONY editor (which I bought long long ago for a fortune and I thought was terrible). I'll try again with the Free Trial of Vegas, and maybe that will work. But I'd rather do the transcoding directly in my Adobe workflow if possible.

With help from the Vegas community, I was able to open, work with, and convert the SONY .MTS files. It required checking certain settings buttons in specific places in the Vegas Pro workflow.

I would really like to work entirely within Adobe (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, ...???). So far I have not found any way to convert 3D .MTS to 3D .MP4 files within the Adobe eco-code system.

.MTS is a "framed" (not VR) compressed file format used by SONY 3D video cameras. It supports both 2D and 3D. It seems to (it may) encode a "Master" with the 2D version and, for 3D,  a "Delta" that can be used to generate the left and right eye images in conjunction with the "Master".

Can anyone help? Please. Thanks!
