Multicam Editing Still Broken in Version 24

Enthusiast ,

I kept hoping that Adobe was going to fix the multicam editing in each new update to version 23, but I tried each one and it never got fixed. Now with version 24 just recently released I thought for sure they would have fixed the problem by now, but apparently it's still broken. I've made this video to demonstrate:

I realize a workaround would be creating proxy files, but that's both time-consuming and takes up more space. If it works fine on version 22, there has to be something causing the issues in versions 23 and later.

Computer and footage info:

Windows 11
Ryzen 9 5950X
64GB DDR4 3600Mhz
Gigabyte RTX 3080 (Studio Driver v546.01)

OS Drive - Samsung 980 Pro 2TB M.2 SSD
Project Drive - Crucial P3 Plus 4TB M.2 SSD

Video format from Panasonic Lumix GH5S cameras: H.264 10-bit 4:2:2 3840x2160 at 150Mb/s

I just dumped a bunch of 4k clips UHD AVC 100mb 29.97 from a sony AX53 and stacked them so there were 4 tracks. I then created a new UHD sequence and dragged the source sequence into it, I right-cliced the sequence and select 'Enable Multicam' and then I did you what you did, and it was working OK. No audio adjustments or any effect were applied, so YMMV.

My system is much like yours but with a 12th gen I9.

Were your clips 10-bit? I've noticed the 10-bit clips seem to slow it down the most. My clips are also all 150Mb/s. Not sure how much that would affect it. Again, these clips all seem to work fine in a multicam edit on version 22.6.4.

No, they are 8-bit. The video you posted certainly demonstrates well what's happening. I did this on a project I started in 2017 (it was multicam) and updated every year as new versions of PP come up. Not sure if that matters.

Very strange. I hope someone can figure it out.

@MyerPj

I'm not sure either of the threads you linked to would help in my situation. I'm editing Panasonic footage, not Sony. I could try the process Ann Bens suggested in the first one of using the media browser to ingest the footage, as I usually import. Didn't know that could be an issue. But again, the multicam editing works fine for me in version 22, just not 23 and newer.

Yeah, I zoned out on the camera you're using... Panasonic, got it. 🙂

So, I guess still no updates to this issue? At least I was able to contact Adobe Support and download the direct install of version 22, so I'll have that until it's no longer supported. It stinks that I'm paying for the latest version and missing out on any new features and improvements, but I use multicam editing on almost every project, so I don't really have a choice.

I just updated to version 24.3.0 and at least so far the problem with multicam edits has been fixed. I'll post another update if I start running into the same issue again, but this makes me hopeful.

Update:
Actually, it's still broken. It just didn't start stuttering until I cut to a couple different angles while continually playing back the footage. Oh well. Guess it's back to verison 22.
