I shoot in 4K but want my output in HD. So when I embed a 4K multicam sequence in a HD main sequence, I scale the 4K multicam sequence to 50% to fit into the HD sequence.
But when I use the 4-pane multicam preview, it shows only the non scaled version of the 4K sequence, so I only see a zoomed in version in the preview. In this example, the 4K multicam sequence only has 1 camera -- a 4k bars and tones. As you can see, the preview is a zoomed/cropped version of the actual view.
Is this a feature or a bug? In order to see the multicam preview properly, I have to set the main sequence also to 4K and then export it to HD. Is there a better trick?

Sadly, this is how 4K multi-cam sequence works in a FHD sequence. If you want to see the full 4K preview in the multi-cam monitor, you can either set the scale of the clips inside of your 4K sequence into 50%, and rescale it later when you finish editing in the main sequence. Or set your main sequence into 4K (as you did) and change the sequence settings back into FHD when you finish multi-cam editing (no need to do the export as you did).

I agree with Ali's suggestions.
Another option would be to work in a 4K sequence but add an Adjustment Layer to the top track with a Crop effect.
This will resemble working in an HD timeline. When you've finished editing, disable the Adjustment Layer and change the sequence size to HD.
Cheers,
Paul

When you said "sadly...", does that imply adobe said they won't fix this behavior?

No, I didn't mean that. Post a request in the ideas section for the multicam monitor to be independent of it's parent sequence resolution and I'll be happy to upvote.
