my cc 2019 saves files as prproj instead of pproj

Our engineers for some reason force us to have different version of Adobe installed and this causes a problem. It happens when I double click on a 2019 project, it open the 2018 version of Premiere and then tells me it can't open it because it was created with a newer version of the software.

I have narrowed down the problem to the file extension used by the 2019 wich is PRPROJ wich is a 2018 extension. Then I have to change the extension to PPROJ in order to have it open the 2019 version.

Is there a fix for this bug? Or is it a bug?

I do just that but it's kind of a pain in the butt. So, I called Adobe support and after 40 minutes of trying to explain my problem. the support person uninstalled the 2018 version and reinstalled it and bingo problem solved. Thanks Adobe!

There are easy utilities that help you set the default program types, the ones highlighted are the ones I've been using:

That would indicate that the 2018 version was the one that needed a reset on the files it "owned".

Or work the other way around: open Pr first then select project.

Both version use the same extension.

If you are on windows right click on the project icon in explorer. Then select Open with/Choose another app/set it to 2019 and check Always use this app....

tried that about 100 times, but keeps reverting back. Plus, the 2019 version isn't even in the selection, you have to litteraly go an pick the executable in the program folder. But this only works for that time only. the following attempt at openning the project still open the wrong version.
