Newby Question - Switching from iMovie to Premiere Pro

I create eLearning, so I use multimedia tools, and I record and edit audio using Adobe Audition.

I only occasionally edit video, and when I do I use iMovie.  But I have Creative Cloud, so I have Premiere Pro.

I may be doing a little more video editing in the future (but still basic editing).  Does it make sense to switch to Premiere, given my lmited use?

Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for all the wonderful comments.

Am I willing to read the entire manual?

Willing, probably, but I don't think i have that kind of time, plus I am sure I don't need all the features at this point.

I only need basic editing now, but since I have Premiere I think I will start with some Lynda.com tutorials.  I have a small editing project, so maybe that will be a good way to get started.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

Are you willing to read the entire manual for PP, beginning to end in sequence, trying each new thing as you learn it?

I put it thus, both questions have the same answer.

Have you only done editing in iMovie?

While editing is editing, Premiere Pro uses a fundamentally different paradigm than iMovie. You should try it out on a test project and see what you think.

If you are happy with the work you are getting in iMovie, it may not be worth the climb up the learning curve to switch to Premiere Pro - but if you are looking to move into more complex editing, Premiere Pro is a very good tool.

Assuming you want to stick to the basics, premiere wont be too difficult of a jump. Watching basic tutorials on youtube will ease you right into it. The biggest advantage is that if you want to start getting more efficient and advanced with your editing, you will far surpass anything you could achieve in iMovie. Plus the creative cloud applications are built in a way to compliment each other through something called a "dynamic link." Its a more advanced area so you don't need to worry about it yet. Just know that you will be able to take advantage of so much more with the creative suite.

Premiere is more professional and give you a wide space to edit and take your e Learning to the next level, just make sure you have the minimum requirement and watch some tutorials online .
