No Bevel effect alternative as it was removed as obsolete?

I need to add inner shadow in texts. As of v. 24.6.1 and later on Premiere Pro does not have the Bevel effect which was removed as obsolete with a promise that:

I dont want to pay extra money for paid plugins that have this effect, so where is an alternative in Premiere Pro for that? Or how at least do I make inner shadow with other tools?

I miss bevel alpha dearly.

Ps is not really the way to go as pointed out in the help.

You cannot open a graphic in Ps nor can you convert a Ps text into a graphic.

Hello AndrewTheGreat, 

One way to create an inner shadow on text is to create a base layer of text without any shadows on a lower track. Then copy and paste that Text Item in the track above. Change the settings of the upper text item so that it is drop shadow only. It looks like this:

 

Is this the kind of text effect you're going for? 

I understand the frustration with the removal of the Bevel Alpha effect. We approached this change, and all of the Obsolete Effects and Tranistions cautiously, starting with moving older effects to the Obsolete folder, then restricting their use in new projects but keeping them available in existing ones, before eventually removing them. We haven't set a specific date for complete removal yet, but it will be at least a year away. Any of your previous projects created before 24.6 will have these effects still available in the timeline, applied to your clips.

The Bevel Alpha effect, like several other removed effects, wasn't GPU-accelerated and could lead to significant performance issues. These effects caused a slowdown, especially during export, since they ran on the CPU and could force other GPU-optimized effects to also run on the CPU.

We understand that performance improvements don't matter as much to you if you rely on this particular effect, and it can be frustrating to feel left without an equivalent option.


Our goal with these changes is to optimize Premiere Pro overall, improving the speed and efficiency of the product for the majority of users. We recognize that this doesn’t lessen the impact if you relied on the removed effects. The team is working to upgrade other effects so that they run on the GPU; since 2022, we’ve upgraded 19 effects, including two more with the release of v25.


We value your feedback, and we want to continue to improve Premiere Pro based on what you need. So, we proceed carefully, provide plenty of notice via the beta program, listen to customer feedback, and change course if we’ve made a mistake. If there is a specific way one our features would work better, more performantly for you, suggest it!

Thanks for your input. But it's a rather clumsy solution and not exactly the effect in question could do. I actually had to ask my collegue to send my all the obsolete effects from version 24.5 from folder c:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2024\PlugIns\Common\ and improted them back in version 25. I really think it was a bad idea to remove all those effects instead of making them GPU-accelerated or at least asking the community via a sort of survey, because as it turns out - and I see it on Reddit everyday - people miss those obsolete effects for being great timesavers and tools for inspiration. I'm not judging your decisions as the developer, but if you want your products to become the best software on the market and the most functional tool for your clients, at least ask us...

The radial wipe effect (not a transition) has no alternative at all - we cannot do radial timers and animated diagrams now within Premiere Pro. The emboss effect has none either - it adds an inner shadow and a shine from opposite sides making a text\layer look volumetric. What you have suggested as a solution takes much more time and actions to do than just applying a single effect and adjusting some numbers. I can understand removing Auto color or Anti-Alias effects - they really are redundant and have their alternatives in Premiere Pro, but the grid, circle, emboss, paint bucket, write-on and radial shadow - these were all great timesavers and really good unique effects. They only needed GPU-acceleration or remaking is some way. Now for timesaving people have to go to CapCut and onlibe services to add those, because After Effects is too bulky. 

If you don't want to bring the obsolete effects back, if they are a closed book now, can you at least start a thread with a survey on what people want to be added in the future versions of Premiere Pro and gradually implement those features? Because your current voting system in the idea-conversations works too slow and most of really good features people wish for remain unnoticed because we - videoeditors - are quite busy people and rarely look through that section, and the search here is lame...

PS: just noticed, there's a shadow behind the text in your example, which I do not need. An inner shadow is inner only.

    Yes, that shadow behind the text can be disabled as well.

     

    With regards to your question, "... can you at least start a thread with a survey on what people want to be added in the future versions of Premiere Pro and gradually implement those features?" That is the purpose of this forum. I appreciate the time you have taken to call out the effects above that you found useful in your day-to-day work as an editor, and that you now miss. I will communicate this vital feedback to the team as we continue to do the work to improve features and add functionality that doesn't slow down performance.
