Yesterday during an in-person meeting with a client, Adobe Premiere shut down “because it wasn't connected to the internet“ This is the first time I've encountered such a problem.
The response from Adobe technical support over the phone could not explain the conditions when the shutdown might occur (i.e not communicating with the servers for x number of days). The explanation was simply "it happens" and “everywhere has internet access.
“
However this is false premise, and one with larger implications - not only for professional location work. Many places in the world have limited internet access and it often correlates with restrictions on free speech and human rights.
Shifting responsibility for core access and functionality on third party actors like telecoms or governments severely impairs Adobe Premiere and makes it completely unreliable for professional work.
Adobe should strongly reconsider policies that deprive creative communities of access to tools of expression particulary when they have already been paid for.
