No "Escape" button in Premier Pro text edit

My fist time in Premier Pro. Following tutorial. Re-wrote the text field. No "Escape" button in the window. the "ESC" button on Macbook Prto does not work. there is no "escape" button anywhere on the entire screen. VERY frustrating...stops me dead in my learning the program. How do I get out of "text" edit.....please?

    Are you talking about a transcript in the Text panel? If so you can click anywhere outside of the text box to accept your changes to the transcript. If you're talking about a different part of Premiere Pro, could you share a screenshot?
