NVIDIA RTX 2080 and Premier Pro issues

I found a thread on this topic from 2019, but thought I'd start a new one as I don't think a clean solution was discussed.

Just upgraded to the RTX2080.  I don't do the upgrae, but have the IT person who built my box do it.

Specs:

Ryzen 5600
Chipset A520
32GB DDR4
RTX2080

Premiere opens up but when I hit the SPACE BAR to play the timeline nothing happens. The audio levels may work, but the timeline isn't playing.

If go to EDIT, then PREFERENCES then select GENERAL, it freezes up.

Any solutions to this issue?

I've got a 2080Ti with a Ryzen 3960X CPU, and it's running fine here.

Past what MyerPj said, dump all cache files, and of course make sure you are using the Nvidia Studio drivers and not the 'game-ready' drivers. If that's what you've got, remove them with a "clean installation" of the latest Studio driver.

What if you don't go to the timeline and press space first. I'm trying to figure out which problem you are looking to solve. If you hold ALT down while your start PP, you have the chance to reset your prefs to default. If you haven't set any, go ahead and do it. You'll have to re-do any prefs you want changed after.

The slow playback you'll need to provide info on your clips and media. It's a middle of the road machine you have. I'm sporting a 1070, and it works OK, but sometimes I get that lag too.

The problem I wanted to solve is when I hit the SPACE BAR in the timeline, it would not move. The audio meters would move, but that's it.

Regardless, I held the ALT key down right when I started Premiere then let go - not sure how long you're supposed to hold it down.  And it seemed to work as the space bar function is working so all seems fine right now.

thanks for the reply.
